Here are some of the things we do to involve and connect pond neighbors and friends, give them the resources they need to educate themselves and others, recommend effective actions they can take and suggest how they can impact policies and actions at a town level.
Involve and Connect
Help pond neighbors form “Friends” groups
Identify opportunities for collaboration among pond groups
Introduce friends groups to resources such as the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, Falmouth Water Stewards, Association to Preserve Cape Cod, Old Ladies Against Underwater Garbage, Green Center, Massachusetts Alternative Septic System Test Center, Cape Cod Commission, Massachusetts Department of Conservation & Recreation, and The 300 Committee
Educate
Share information about causes of pond degradation like septic systems, fertilizers, stormwater runoff and invasive plants
Educate about pond-friendly property management
Provide sample fliers, outreach letters, and fact sheets
Recommend action steps and solutions, like:
Help Friends groups establish water testing programs
Identify support for developing pond management plans and securing funding for remediation projects
Town engagement
Formulate and advance a shared public policy agenda
Help engage government officials as partners
